Lead Poisoning Prevention
The AGO recently awarded over $433,000 in grants to nine nonprofit community agencies and health advocacy organizations in an effort to increase childhood lead poisoning awareness reduce lead poisoning and increase the percentage of children who are screened for lead exposure. The funding for the grants stemmed from a national, multi-state settlement agreement with Mattel, Inc., and its subsidiary, Fisher-Price, Inc., and the grant money was awarded for Fiscal Year 2010 (July 1, 2009). DPU Public Hearings
Customer participation in ratemaking proceedings helps to ensure that electric and gas companies provide reliable energy services at the lowest cost. Throughout the month of July, the Department of Public Utilities will hold public hearings in regards to the petition of National Grid (Massachusetts Electric Company, and Nantucket Electric Company) for a general increase in electric rates and approval of a revenue decoupling mechanism. Those who wish to participate in the hearings, but are unable to attend in person, may submit written comment to the DPU.
