Directions to the Information Technology Division (ITD)

ITD has two office locations: one is in Boston located at One Ashburton Place (also known as the McCormack Building); the other is located in Chelsea (also known as the Massachusetts Information Technology Center (MITC)).  This page displays directions to both locations.

Please note: Construction may impact these roadways at any given time, therefore, these directions may change without notice. In addition, parking is not easily available in the city and rates can be quite expensive.  It is strongly recommended that you take public transportation whenever possible.

Directions to One Ashburton Place/McCormack Building:

From the South Shore to McCormack Building/One Ashburton Place:

  • Take Route 93 North (Southeast Expressway) to Exit 20.
  • While exiting, bear to the left towards South Station via Frontage Road.
  • Go through 2 sets of lights.
  • At the 3rd light, get into the right hand lane.
  • Travel straight towards South Station/Downtown. 
  • At the next light, take a left onto Kneeland Street towards China Town.
  • Follow Kneeland Street.  You will be forced to take a right onto Charles Street. 
  • Continue straight on Charles Street though the Boylston Street intersection.
  • At the intersection of Charles Street and Beacon Street, take a right onto Beacon Street.
  • Continue to the top of Beacon Street; the State House is on the left.
  • Take a left onto Bowdoin Street.
  • Take a right onto Ashburton Place.
  • The McCormack Building will be immediately on your left.

From the North Shore (Route 93) to McCormack Building/One Ashburton Place:

  • Take Route 93 South to the Central Artery.
  • Take Exit 24A at Government Center.
  • Stay left at the top of the ramp; bear right onto the surface artery
  • Take a right at State Street; follow to the end.
  • Take a right onto Cambridge Street. 
  • Take a left at the lights onto Somerset Street.
  • Take a right onto Ashburton Place.
  • The McCormack Building will be immediately on your right.

From the West to McCormack Building/One Ashburton Place:

  • Take the Massachusetts Turnpike (Interstate 90) east.
  • Take Exit 22, Copley Square/Prudential.
  • Stay in the right lane and follow the signs for Copley Square.
  • This will lead you to Stuart Street.
  • Continue straight through five lights.
  • At the sixth light, turn left onto Charles Street South.
  • At the third light, make a right onto Beacon Street.
  • The State House will be on your left.
  • Take a left onto Bowdoin Street.
  • Take a right onto Ashburton Place.
  • The McCormack Building will be immediately on your left.

From the Northwest to McCormack Building/One Ashburton Place:

  • Take Route 2 east into Cambridge.
  • This will lead you to the Fresh Pond Parkway.
  • Follow signs for downtown Boston and Storrow Drive east.
  • Take Storrow Drive for approximately 5 miles.
  • Take the exit for Government Center and Cambridge Street.
  • At the end of the ramp at the traffic light, turn right onto Charles Street.
  • At the fifth light turn left onto Beacon Street.
  • The State House will be on your left.
  • Take a left onto Bowdoin Street.
  • Take a right onto Ashburton Place.
  • The McCormack Building will be immediately on your left.

MBTA to McCormack Building/One Ashburton Place:

Blue Line:

  • Take the train to Government Center Station.
  • Exit the station.
  • Take a left onto Cambridge Street.
  • Cambridge Street turns into Tremont Street.
  • Take first right onto Beacon Street.
  • Take a right onto Bowdoin Street.
  • Take a right onto Ashburton Place.
  • The McCormack Building will be immediately on your left.

Green Line:

  • Take the train to Park Street Station.
  • Exit the station.
  • Walk up Park Street toward the State House.
  • Take a right onto Beacon Street.
  • Take a left onto Bowdoin Street.
  • Take a right onto Ashburton Place.
  • The McCormack Building will be immediately on your left.

Orange Line: 

  • Take the train to Downtown Crossing.
  • Exit the station.
  • Walk up Winter Street.
  • Turn right onto Tremont Street.
  • Take first left onto Park Street.
  • Walk up Park Street toward the State House
  • Take a right onto Beacon Street.
  • Take a left onto Bowdoin Street.
  • Take a right onto Ashburton Place.
  • The McCormack Building will be immediately on your left.

Red Line: 

  • Take the train to Park Street Station.
  • Exit the station.
  • Walk up Park Street toward the State House.
  • Take a right onto Beacon Street.
  • Take a left onto Bowdoin Street.
  • Take a right onto Ashburton Place.
  • The McCormack Building will be immediately on your left.

Commuter Rail to McCormack Building/One Ashburton Place:

South Station:

  • Take the Commuter Rail to South Station.
  • Take the Red Line to Park Street Station.
  • Walk up Park Street toward the State House.
  • Take a right onto Beacon Street.
  • Take a left onto Bowdoin Street.
  • Take a right onto Ashburton Place.
  • The McCormack Building will be immediately on your left.

North Station:

  • Take the Commuter Rail to North Station.
  • Exit the station to the Green Line.
  • Take the Green Line to Park Street Station.
  • Walk up Park Street toward the State House.
  • Take a right onto Beacon Street.
  • Take a left onto Bowdoin Street.
  • Take a right onto Ashburton Place.
  • The McCormack Building will be immediately on your left.

From the South Shore to MITC:

  • Take Route 93 North.
  • Take the Tobin Bridge exit (Exit 27).
  • Take the 2nd exit off of the Tobin Bridge (4th St. exit).
  • Take the 2nd right (this is Broadway).
  • Take the 2nd right (this is Third Street).
  • Go straight under the Tobin Bridge (this is Everett Street).
  • Take a right turn at the Dunkin Donuts (this is Arlington Street).
  • MITC is on the left, 200 Arlington Street (across from the school).
  • Parking: Go past MITC - visitor's parking lot is on the right.


From the North Shore (Route 1) to MITC:

  • Take Route 1 South.
  • Take the Carter Street exit which is the last exit before the toll booths.
  • Bear right coming off the exit and turn left at the set of lights onto Everett Avenue.
  • Take a left turn at the Dunkin Donuts onto Arlington Street.
  • MITC is on the left, 200 Arlington Street (across from the school).
  • Parking: Go past MITC - visitor's parking lot is on the right.


From the North Shore (Route 93) to MITC:

  • Take Route 93 South.
  • Take Exit 31, Route 16 off of Route 93.
  • Take Slight Left onto Mystic Valley Parkway, which becomes the Revere Beach Parkway.
  • Go straight through Wellington Circle (MDC Police Station on right, Kappy's Liquors on left).
  • Stay on Route 16, past the rotary - go through 4 or 5 sets of lights until you get to Everett Avenue (there is a Mobil Gas Station on the right at Everett Avenue).
  • Take a right onto Everett Avenue.
  • Take a left turn at the Dunkin Donuts onto Arlington Street.
  • MITC is on the left, 200 Arlington Street (across from the school).
  • Parking: Go past MITC - visitor's parking lot is on the right.

Airport to MITC:

  • Take Route 1A North Revere/Lynn.
  • Take the first exit - the sign will read "145 Chelsea/Winthrop".
  • Go to bottom of ramp, and go left to the first set of lights.
  • Go straight across passing 2 streets, one of which is Bennington Street.
  • At Green sign that says "CHELSEA", go right onto Chelsea Street.
  • Go to first set of lights (almost bearing left).
  • Go straight through lights until you come to a "Welcome to Chelsea" sign.
  • This is Central Ave. Take this street all the way to the end. At the end take a right (no street sign).
  • Go through Bellingham Square.
  • Take a left at City Hall Ave.
  • Take the next left (Washington Avenue.).
  • Immediately bear right onto Chestnut Street.
  • Take a right onto Fifth Street.
  • You will see the building in front of you, 200 Arlington Street. (across from the school)..
  • Parking: Go past MITC - visitor's parking lot is on the right.

Commuter Rail to MITC:

  • From North Station, take the Newburyport/Rockport Line to the Chelsea stop, which is the first stop on the line. The fare is approximately $2.00.
  • As you step off the train, walk to the right.
  • At the corner of Sixth Street and Arlington Street turn left.
  • MITC is on the right, 200 Arlington Street (across from the school).

Bus to MITC:

  • Take the "111" bus from Haymarket. The fare is approximately $1.50 with cash on board.  ($1.25 with CharlieCard)
  • Get off at Bellingham Square (approximately the 5th stop).
  • You are now on Broadway at the intersection of 5th Street.
  • Cross the street and walk north on 5th street.
  • Proceed under the Tobin Bridge to Arlington street.
  • MITC is on your left, 200 Arlington Street (across from the school).
