Statement of Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley
BOSTON –Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley today issued the following statement today in response to City Councilor and mayoral candidate Michael Flaherty’s demand that the Attorney General’s Office complete its investigation into the possible unlawful deletion of public records by staff at Boston City Hall:
“It is surprising that Councilor Flaherty, himself an attorney with experience in criminal law, would expect that our office complete a thorough investigation and reach a resolution on this matter in a mere 7 days. We understand that this inquiry is of great interest to all parties involved in the mayoral race, but politics do not and should not ever dictate how or when we conduct investigations. We are committed to completing our review as efficiently and thoroughly as possible.”
