Energy Education Mini-Grants

The AGO has awarded over $55,000 in grant funding to nonprofit organizations and municipalities throughout the Commonwealth who are interested in educating the public on how to be more energy efficient in their daily lives.

The grants provide one time payments of up to $5,000 to local consumer aid programs and other non-profit organizations.  The grant funds must be used for educational programs designed to help consumers better navigate the energy market in Massachusetts and help consumers lower their monthly energy bills by providing them with knowledge about energy contracts, weatherization methods, and competitive market options.

The funding for the grants stems from an agreement the Attorney General’s Office reached in March 2008 with a nationwide energy supplier that operates in the Commonwealth.

The following organizations have been awarded grant funding:

  • Elder Services, Town of Andover
  • Auburn Council on Aging
  • Consumer Assistance Council, Hyannis
  • Climate Change Action Brookline
  • Community Action Agency of Somerville
  • Healthy Malden, Inc.
  • Housing Assistance Corporation of Hyannis
  • Eagle House Senior Center, Lunenburg
  • Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless, Lynn
  • Melrose Mass Television
  • Northern Berkshire Community Coalition, North Adams
  • Northampton Council on Aging and Senior Center
  • Shrewsbury Council on Aging
  • Wenham Council on Aging

The deadline for grant applications was July 15, 2008.  The grant money will be awarded on or around August 15, 2008, and must be utilized by November 15, 2008.
