Information designed to educate youths and adults on a variety of issues to keep  our schools and communities safe.

 

Choose to Refuse: A Heroin and OxyContin Prevention Education Program

This program is a six-session curriculum that helps young people, ages 13-18, understand the legal, physical and social consequences of heroin and Oxycontin use. Participants learn decision-making skills, refusal methods, and the ability to recognize risky situations, and rehearse their responses to pro-drug pressures. The District Attorney’s Office offers “train-the-trainer” workshops for professionals, as well as technical assistance to help implement the program.

Don’t Give Kids Alcohol Brochure

This brochure explains the legal consequences of hosting an underage drinking party, and provides facts and resource information regarding the social host liability law in Massachusetts.

 

What Parents Need to Know About Prescription Drug Abuse Brochure

This brochure provides information regarding the growing trend of illegal use and abuse of prescription drugs among young people. It includes signs and symptoms, most commonly abused prescription medications, and resource information about where to get help.

 

Teen Dating Violence Brochure: What to do now?

This brochure offers information regarding signs of an abusive relationship, facts and statistics, and resource information. It also provides tips for victims and their supporters on safe ways to end an abusive relationship.

Stop Bullying Before It Starts: A Kids-to-Kids Prevention Project

This program is designed to educate middle school students about the consequences of bullying, and engage them in developing and delivering bullying prevention messages to younger elementary school students. The District Attorney’s Office offers “train-the-trainer” workshops for professionals, as well as technical assistance to help implement this program.

NetSmartz

This program uses an interactive method to educate children about online dangers. The District Attorney’s Office can provide all grade levels and parents with a single “assembly-style” presentation covering online risks of exposure to inappropriate material, sexual solicitation, harassment, and bullying. This program was developed by the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, and the Boys and Girls Clubs of America.

i-Safe

This program is a K-12 curriculum that addresses internet-related topics such as predator danger, cyber-bullying, cyber-security and intellectual property. The District Attorney’s Office offers trainings on the i-Safe curriculum for educators, law enforcement, and community agencies.

Keeping Kids Safe on the Internet

This presentation is offered to parents to provide information regarding the Internet, and how parents can develop rules to help their children use the Internet safely and responsibly. The presentation specifically addresses social networking sites such as MySpace, Xenga, and Friendster.

MISSING

This interactive computer game is designed for middle school students to teach them about dangerous situations on the Internet, specifically luring. The program also offers support materials for teachers and a video for parents. The District Attorney’s Office offers training on the program and will loan copies of the program to schools and other organizations. This program was developed by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

 

Parenting Wisely

This interactive, computer-based program teaches parents valuable communication skills such as active listening, assertive discipline, and contracting. The District Attorney’s Office offers presentations about the program and also facilitates workshops for parent groups. Copies of the program are available on loan to schools and other agencies. This proven program was developed by Don Gordon, Ph.D., from Family Works, Inc.

Child Abuse & Neglect: What you need to know about reporting child abuse and neglect

This brochure was developed to inform and assist mandated reporters in complying with MGL Chapter 119, Section 51A. The District Attorney’s Office offers a 51A training to help you understand the legal responsibilities and appropriate procedures necessary for mandated reporters to report suspicions of child abuse and neglect, under MGL Chapter 119, Section 51A.

Community Awareness Calendar PDF

This 12 month calendar provides information about common crime-related concerns and resource information.
