Baby Girl Allegedly Shaken By Lynn Man Dies
Defendant to Face Murder Charge
Alonzo Guzman, 18, of Lynn, will now face a murder charge, and is expected to be arraigned sometime next week in Lynn District Court.
Guzman had pleaded not guilty earlier this week in Lynn District Court to assault and battery on a child with substantial injury for allegedly shaking the infant, and was ordered held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing, scheduled for Tuesday, May 5.
Guzman, who is not the biological father, allegedly shook his girlfriend’s baby girl on Saturday, April 25, at the 30 Baker Street apartment he shared with them.
After the alleged crime, the defendant brought the baby to a downstairs neighbor who called 911. The infant was taken to North Shore Medical Center in Salem, and then transferred to Boston Medical Center. From there she was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital.
The case is being investigated by Lynn Police and State Police detectives assigned to the Office of Essex District Attorney Jonathan W. Blodgett.
