Robert G. Nunes, Deputy Commissioner & Director of Municipal Affairs
Robert G. Nunes serves as Deputy Commissioner of Revenue managing the Division of Local Services within the Department of Revenue. He is also the Director of Municipal Affairs. In his role as Director, Nunes will focus on strengthening the partnership between state government and local communities. He chairs the Municipal Affairs Coordinating Cabinet. The cabinet coordinates activities throughout the executive branch that are designed to enhance the state and local partnership.
Nunes has 25 years of local and state government experience and is the longest-serving mayor in Taunton’s history. As Mayor, he managed the city out of fiscal crises in 1992 and 2004 and built four new schools in 10 years without a debt exclusion.
Nunes is a past president of the Massachusetts Mayors’ Association and a former member of the Massachusetts Municipal Association Board of Directors and the Local Government Advisory Commission.
Nunes received the Distinguished Public Service Award from Bridgewater State College in May of 2006 for his extraordinary response to the Whittenton Pond Dam Crisis in the City of Taunton in October of 2005. Nunes holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Government from Suffolk University. He lives in Taunton with his wife Dyann and their daughter Aryanna.
