Occupational Safety and Health Statistics Program
The Division of Occupational Safety administers the Annual Survey of Occupational Injuries and Illnesses for all private-sector and public-sector industries, trades, and occupations. This survey, conducted in partnership with the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics, provides detailed information on injuries and illnesses in the workplace. Selected employer units will receive a pre-notification package in the December prior to the calendar year in which they are required to maintain records.
Background
Since 1992, Massachusetts, and most other states, have been in a partnership with the Bureau of Labor Statistics to collect occupational injury and illness data using a single format. The annual surveys are collected from approximately 6,000 establishments in Massachusetts. Nationwide, over 200,000 surveys are collected.
