Helping to Make Massachusetts Safer
Thanks in part to the Massachusetts Division of Occupational Safety, under the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development, Gerald Ely, age 68, of Pittsfieldhas been arraigned on charges of overseeing the illegal removal of asbestos without notifying the Department of Environmental Protection at a residential building he manages and maintains in Pittsfield.
The case was brought to the attention of the state’s Environmental Crimes Task Force by Pittsfield Code Enforcement and the Division of Occupational Safety after a series of inspections at the residential building Ely is responsible for managing and maintaining at 1223-1230 North Street, and a Cease and Desist order issued by the DOS in March, 2007, prohibiting entrance to the affected portion of the building until proper removal of the asbestos.
