Recovery and Reinvestment - Education
Based on preliminary estimates released by the U.S. Department of Education (ED), Massachusetts is expected to receive $1,881,421,901 over the next two years through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) to support early education, K-12 education, and higher education. This amount does not include potential competitive grant awards and support for capital projects. Governor Deval Patrick played a key role in securing a strong commitment to education within the ARRA. ED has provided specific guidelines and a timetable for disbursement for selected funding streams included in the ARRA. Among the ARRA's specific requirements, fiscal stabilization funds for K-12 education must be distributed to districts through the state funding formula, while Title I and IDEA must be distributed through their respective federal formulae.
