Annual Statewide Beach Cleanup Program Kicks Off at Nantasket Beach

WHAT:

State environmental officials, business leaders, and non-profit organizations from around the Commonwealth will gather at Nantasket State Beach in Hull to launch the 22nd annual statewide beach cleanup program, COASTSWEEP. The event, organized by the Massachusetts Office of Coastal Zone Management (CZM) and the UMass Boston Urban Harbors Institute, is an annual cleanup of Massachusetts shorelines. With support from Bank of America as part the Ocean Conservancy’s International Coastal Cleanup, cleanups are planned at more than 100 Massachusetts beaches, river banks, marshes, and underwater sites throughout September and October. Thousands of volunteers are expected to help clean these coastal sites, or organize local cleanup activities, and CZM and UMass encourage more citizens to join in.
