Energy Leaders
Private sector entities represent a significant portion of energy use in the state. DOER's Commonwealth Energy Resource Team (CERT) can help you become an Energy Leader, working toward a cheaper, cleaner energy future. Contact the CERT for an Intake Interview. Tell us about your primary business activities and your energy usage and we'll provide ongoing hands-on assistance. To learn more about energy measures, programs, and information resources, go to the Commonwealth Energy Resource Team web page.

Dennis Union Church and Energy Efficient Renovation
The Dennis Union Church recently remodeled their space, including increasing their size by 40% and adding central air conditioning. Through incorporating energy efficiency measures and a solar photovoltaic array in their renovation, the Dennis Union Church was able to cut their energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions in conjunction with the remodeling. See how they did it here.
Cooley Dickinson Hospital and Biomass Cogeneration (CHP)
Cooley Dickinson Hospital is expanding its long time use of wood chips to heat and cool (with an absorption chiller) the hospital by installing a new biomass combined heat and power (CHP) system that will also generate 80 kW of electricity. The CHP system will add reliability to the hospital's operations and reduce long-term operating costs, providing greater financial capacity to invest in medical equipment crucial for its mission.

State Government and Clean Energy – Leading by Example Program
Through various initiatives, LBE works to reduce the overall environmental impacts of state government operations, particularly climate and energy impacts. Executive Order 484 establishes higher energy efficiency standards in the operation of state buildings, setting short- and long-term targets and goals to advance clean energy and efficiency, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to global warming.

City Government and Clean Energy Efforts for Business
Solar Boston
In June 2007, the City of Boston became one of thirteen inaugural Solar America Cities under the Solar America Initiative of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and launched Solar Boston, a half-million-dollar program to encourage widespread adoption of solar energy in Boston. Solar Boston partners include DOE, the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative, DOER, local utilities and unions, an anonymous foundation, and a broad range of local, regional, and national clean energy stakeholders. Those interested in financial support for solar PV outside of Boston should visit the Commonwealth Solar website. If you're in Boston visit these Solar Boston resources:
