Wind Energy Model Zoning By-Law (2009)

Massachusetts Maritime Academy’s Wind Turbine In October 2009, the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources and Executive Office of Environmental Affairs developed a new model bylaw to help cities and towns establish reasonable zoning standards for wind power development and facilitate projects. The Wind Model Zoning Bylaw PDF applies to utility–scale wind facilities, on–site wind facilities, and small wind energy systems. It also addresses building integrated wind systems and physical modifications that alter the type, configuration, or size of existing wind facilities or other equipment.

This model zoning bylaw also provides as-of-right siting, which is required for cities and towns to qualify as a Green Community.
