Milestones for Efficiency

Massachusetts has exciting news to report about energy efficiency, the most cost effective, available, and clean of all energy resources. We’ve been recognized as one of the top two states in the country for the wide range of cost-effective energy efficiency strategies already in place. But it is future achievements that we now have our eyes on, since our state’s public leaders and its utilities and energy providers set nation-leading targets for electric and gas savings from ambitious investments in energy efficiency.

The Energy Efficiency Advisory Council (EEAC) has approved ground breaking agreements proposed by the Patrick Administration and Attorney General Martha Coakley, and worked out with the state's electric and gas utilities and energy providers. These agreements mean that three times as many state residents and businesses will have access to services to reduce their energy consumption, manage their costs, invest in their homes and workplaces, and reduce carbon dioxide pollution between 2010 and 2012.

The Department of Public Utilities (DPU) will be reviewing three-year plans detailing the investments, programs, and savings this fall.

The process that brought us to these landmark targets was a comprehensive effort to identify all available cost effective energy efficiency opportunities. We will achieve these dramatic targets and goals by experimenting with new approaches, tapping expanded resources, rewarding exceptional performance, and instituting best practices.

Most of all, our state will achieve its goals and improve our lives and our environment, when each and every one of us gets informed and takes initiative. There will be education, outreach, and resources available to guide you in 2010 and beyond.

We have a chance to be a showcase for the nation and the world, reducing energy waste while growing our economy. We also have a chance to make our lives as comfortable, safe, and healthy as possible. Please join with us for our future.
