The Health Safety Net (HSN) pays acute care hospitals and community health centers for essential health care services provided to uninsured and underinsured Massachusetts residents.

The "For Providers" section contains hospital and community health center claims, billing and payment, and pharmacy services information; frequently asked questions; and the special circumstances application.

The "For Patients" section includes copayment information; health care resources and frequently asked questions; and help line contact information.

The Health Safety Net surcharge percentage for fiscal year 2010 is 1.90 percent. This applies to payments made to hospitals and ambulatory surgical centers for the period from October 1, 2009 through September 30, 2010.
