The New WIC Food Package
As of October 1, 2009, the Massachusetts WIC Nutrition Program has implemented the new federally required WIC food package. The new food package is a major step forward for WIC in providing healthy nutritious foods to its participants and in its campaign against obesity. The additional new foods that were added include fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grain cereals and breads, brown rice, soft corn and wheat tortillas, soy-beverages, tofu, and baby foods as well as a number of others, will work to reinforce WIC’s nutrition education messages.
