Essex & Middlesex County Ice Storm Assistance Briefings
As a result of the expansion of the major disaster declaration, which the Commonwealth of Massachusetts received, due to the severe ice storm of December 11, 2008, the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will be conducting two (2) Applicant Briefings, regarding the availability of Federal funding for recently included Middlesex and Essex Counties. These briefings will explain the reimbursement process for receiving Federal funds for eligible expenses incurred by state and local governments, as well as eligible private non-profit organizations, for emergency work and repair or replacement of infrastructure and public facilities. This major disaster declaration does not apply to individuals, residents or businesses.
“The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency continues to look forward to assisting all of the affected cities and towns, state agencies and eligible private non-profit organizations in these most affected counties,” stated MEMA Director Don Boyce. “The funds recovered will go a long way in helping these impacted communities.”
“We are pleased to be able provide assistance to the Commonwealth and the impacted communities,” stated Federal Coordinating Officer Mark H. Landry.
Communities are encouraged to send a representative from local emergency management, public works and finance departments since the briefings will explain the reimbursement process in detail. The briefings are expected to last approximately 1.5 hours. It is imperative that communities send at least one representative to obtain the necessary forms and information to enable each community to receive proper reimbursement.
Private non-profit organizations located in these counties may be eligible to receive Federal reimbursement for their expenses. In order for a private non-profit to be eligible for reimbursement, it must meet the FEMA eligibility criteria. For questions regarding eligibility, please refer to the FEMA website at www.fema.govor contact the MEMA Disaster Recovery Department at (508) 820-2055
