State Police Investigate Fatal Crash on Route 6 in Brewster
Preliminary investigation by Trooper Randall Carlson indicates that 19-year-old Angela Champ from Harwich was operating a 1996 Toyota Corolla east on Route 6 when it crossed onto the westbound side. A 2004 Chrysler minivan traveling west on Route 6, operated by79 -year-old Warren D. Hayes from Harwich, struck the Toyota in the passenger side. Both vehicles came to rest in the westbound breakdown lane with the minivan on its side. Hayes and his passenger, 67-year-old Barbara Hayes from Harwich were transported by Brewster and Harwich EMS to Cape Cod Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. They were extracted by Brewster, Harwich and Orleans Fire Departments. Angela Champ suffered serious injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

This crash remains under investigation with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section. Police and Fire Departments from Brewster, Orleans and Harwich assisted troopers at the scene.
Due to the crash investigation and vehicle removal, both directions of Route 6 were closed for 3 1/2 hours between exits 11 and 12. Traffic was detoured with assistance from local Police and Mass Highways.
