State Police Investigate Single-Vehicle Fatal Crash on Route 3 South in Billerica

On Thursday, June 11, 2009, at approximately 12:07 p.m., Troopers assigned to the State Police Barracks in Concord responded to a serious single-vehicle crash on Route 3 South in Billerica that resulted in one fatality. 

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Thomas Devlin indicates that 83 year-old Stanley F. Butler of Nashua, NH was operating a 2005 Nissan Altima sedan on Route 3 southbound, south of Exit 7 when he lost control in the right travel lane and breakdown lane, rolling over off the right side of the roadway.  Butler suffered serious injuries as a result of the crash and was transported by ambulance to Lahey Clinic in Burlington where he was subsequently pronounced deceased. 

This crash remains under investigation with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section.  Troopers on scene where assisted by the Billerica Police Department, Billerica Fire & EMS and MassHigways.      

The right travel lane and breakdown lane were closed for approximately 2 hours for the crash investigation and vehicle removal.
