Boxing Commission
The State Boxing Commission regulates professional and amateur boxing as well as kickboxing in Massachusetts . The Commission does not presently have the authority to regulate Mixed Martial Arts events. The Commission is comprised of three members, known as Commissioners, who are appointed to serve by the Governor. The Commission derives its authority from Massachusetts General Laws chapter 147, sections 32-51. Further, the Commission has enacted its own regulations which are codified in title 523 of the Code of Massachusetts Regulations (“CMR”).
Prior to holding any boxing or kickboxing exhibition, a Special License must be granted by the Commission. Additionally, all participants in professional boxing exhibitions must be licensed by the Commission. All license applications can be obtained via the link below.
