About the Safe Driver Insurance Plan Regulation
The Safe Driver Insurance Plan Regulation
- provides for the collection and exchange of private passenger motor vehicle insurance claims and traffic law violations
- defines the point-based system that lowers premiums for drivers with clean driving records, and increases premiums for drivers with traffic violaltions and at-fault accidents
The SDIP system of surcharges and credits applies to all private passenger automobile insurance policies with an effective date before April 1, 2008. For policies with effective dates on or after April 1, 2008, the SDIP rating system applies if:
- your company has elected to use the SDIP as its merit rating plan
- your insurance policy is written through the Massachusetts Automobile Insurance Plan (MAIP)
