  • Economic Recovery Under Governor Patrick’s leadership, Massachusetts ranks fourth in the nation for getting federal stimulus funds distributed throughout the Commonwealth to get people back to work. The state has used about $1.5 billion of the $3.3 billion awarded to Massachusetts.  Funds have been used for transportation, education, clean energy, and health and human services, as well lessening the depth of necessary budget cuts.  The announcement comes as there have been recent upticks in Massachusetts consumer and business confidence. • Commitment to Public Safety – Fire departments around the Commonwealth are applying for newly available stimulus funding.  Governor Patrick recently directed $20 million in federal stimulus funds to municipal fire departments across Massachusetts.  The $20 million comes on top of the $45 million of ARRA funding that has previously been directed to police departments across the state, bringing the total federal recovery funds directed toward public safety to $71 million.  “These funds will help local police and fire departments keep professionals on the job, and the public's safety preserved,” said Governor Patrick.
