In the Press:
- Governor of the Whole Commonwealth – Fulfilling his promise to be a Governor of the whole state, Governor Patrick has spent a considerable amount of time outside of Boston in Western Massachusetts and other parts of the state that were previously ignored by past administrations: “This past week, he donned safety goggles and toured a factory in East Otis that turns granite into sidewalk curbs. He walked the streets of North Adams, swore in a Cabinet member in Pittsfield, and announced - at a hockey rink, with about 40 children skating nearby - $40.4 million in federal stimulus money to be disbursed throughout the state. The governor drew standing ovations nearly everywhere he went.” Read more in the Boston Globe.

- Investing in Communities – As part of Governor Patrick’s commitment to economic recovery, the Braga Bridge will soon take on a new look as a result of a $13.3 million project funded through the Governor’s accelerated bridge program. Contractors are already making preparations to delead and repaint the bridge. Patrick committed $14.9 million to the bridge painting and repair project in his 2008 transportation bond bill. The entire project is expected to take about eight years and cost approximately $30 million. Drivers do not need to fear traffic hold-ups though: Painting work will not coincide with the ongoing project underneath Government Center, which is set for completion by the end of this year. - ‘Federal Money Boosts Cape Towns’ – Last week, Governor Patrick announced that nine Cape and Islands towns will be receiving federal stimulus money for infrastructure upgrade projects. As part of the Urban Development and federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, these towns will receive money for housing rehabilitation, water quality upgrades and child care assistance, among other projects. “Across the state, 75 communities are receiving an infusion of federal money totaling $40 million, with $31 million coming from the housing agency and the stimulus program providing $9 million.” This stimulus money will significantly improve many facets of these local towns.
