  • Commitment to Education – Yesterday, the Patrick Administration announced that Massachusetts students in the class of 2009 ranked first nationally on all four subject area exams on the ACT exam, a test that measures college readiness. "I am so proud of our students and the teachers who prepare them," said Governor Deval Patrick. "Once again they lead the nation, and we must do all we can to support them and to accelerate our efforts to ensure that every student in every community reaches his or her full potential." In the Press:

  • Senator Kennedy – The following is Governor Patrick’s statement on Senator Kennedy’s letter: “It’s typical of Ted Kennedy to be thinking ahead, and about the people of Massachusetts, when the rest of us are thinking about him.  Diane and I continue to pray for the restoration of the Senator’s health and the comfort of his family.”
  • Storm Preparation – State officials cautioned boaters and swimmers to stay aware of surf conditions as the projected path of Hurricane Bill is predicted to pass several hundred miles east of Massachusetts. Even at that distance, Hurricane Bill is expected to have an impact on coastal regions. Swimmers and boaters must take precautions given the potential high seas and strong currents expected to be associated with this event over the remainder of the week. • Economic Recovery – The Massachusetts unemployment rate of 8.8% remains below the national average of 9.4%, as Massachusetts continues to weather the recession better than many other states in the country. The Patrick Administration continues to maximize job creation opportunities with existing resources as well as those from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Learn more.
