  • Governor Appoints Jeff Mullan MassDOT Secretary & CEO – Yesterday, Governor Deval Patrick announced Jeffrey B. Mullan as his appointment for Secretary and CEO of MassDOT, the new streamlined transportation organization created by the landmark transportation reform law the Governor signed in June. MassDOT will launch on November 1, 2009: “Jeff brings a critical commitment to reform and high-level of expertise to the table,” said Governor Patrick. “He possesses the vision and know-how we need to effectively lead a unified transportation organization that eliminates waste, saves taxpayer dollars and improves the delivery of transportation services across our Commonwealth.” Read the press release here.

  • U.S. Senate Interim Appointment – Support for legislation to grant the Governor authority to appoint an interim successor to Senator Kennedy’s seat is growing in the Legislature. Governor Patrick has voiced his support for this reasonable proposal, noting the fact that Massachusetts needs two voices in the U.S. Senate as Congress continues to debate health care reform, climate change and other critical issues. The Governor has already set a special election date to permanently fill the vacancy.

  • Promoting Financial Literacy – Today, the Patrick-Murray Administration’s Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation unveiled “Project Credit Smarts.” The program, run in partnership with local colleges, businesses, and government, aims to educate Boston’s students about credit card usage, specifically its potential dangers: “Young adults need to understand the importance of building a solid credit foundation and responsible financial management,” said Governor Deval Patrick. “Project Credit Smarts will help students gain these critical life skills.” The conference took place at Roxbury Community College.
