BIO International Convention in Boston 2012 by you. BIO International Convention in Boston 2012 by you.

Governor Patrick and Massachusetts Life Sciences Center President Dr. Susan Windham-Bannister give remarks at yesterday’s announcement.

  • Bringing BIO Back to Boston – Yesterday, Governor Patrick participated in an event to announce the return of the prestigious BIO International Convention to Boston. The Governor unveiled his landmark $1 billion life sciences initiative at the 2007 gathering in Boston, which saw record attendance and generated more than $24 million for the local economy. “Our ongoing focus on the biotechnology industry is just one of the many reasons the Massachusetts economy is primed for recovery and growth,” said Governor Deval Patrick. “By bringing the BIO International Convention back to Boston and drawing the world’s attention once again to our state’s inherent strengths, we can and we will create both the immediate and long term economic impacts that benefit businesses, workers and families across the Commonwealth.”

  • Commitment to Responsible Budgeting – Thanks to the Patrick-Murray Administration’s efforts, the Massachusetts economy is starting to show signs of recovery and the Governor is committed to ensuring every family, worker and business benefits from a brighter future. Like virtually every other state in the country, an unprecedented global recession continues to impact our revenues and the Administration is closely monitoring the budget situation. “We’re obviously watching the revenues very, very closely,” said Governor Patrick. “We have a whole host of different scenarios, as you can imagine, that we have thought about and reflected on because we want to be prepared.’’ Read more in the Boston Globe.
  • An editorial in today’s Springfield Republican praises outgoing Administration and Finance Secretary Leslie Kirwan for her solid fiscal leadership and commends Governor Patrick for selecting Undersecretary Jay Gonzalez to succeed her. Read more here.

  • Young Adult Community Meetings – Last week, the Patrick-Murray Administration kicked off a series of statewide community meetings for young adults in Springfield. In keeping with Governor Patrick’s recognition of the vital role young people play in the state’s economy, the meetings will give participants a chance to network and discuss a common vision for Massachusetts and share suggestions with the administration. Discussion at last week’s meeting included transportation to and from local college campuses and surrounding neighborhoods, and other higher education issues. Watch more on WWLP and on WGGB.

This Week:

  • Yesterday, Governor Patrick announced that the prestigious BIO International Convention will return to Boston in 2012. The convention will bring renewed attention to the state’s leading biotechnology industry and generate millions of dollars in economic activity for the city.

  • Yesterday afternoon, Governor Patrick attended a legislative leadership meeting in the Speaker’s Office at the State House.
