- This morning, Governor Patrick welcomed President Obama to Boston at Logan International Airport and attended the President’s clean energy address at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
- Governor Patrick issued the following statement relative to the President’s address: “I am so pleased that President Obama chose Massachusetts, and this great university, as the place to deliver a major message on clean energy. In the Commonwealth, we are hard at work aligning energy and environmental regulations, making energy efficiency the fuel of first choice, setting a price on carbon emissions, and accelerating the use of renewable power. This is the perfect place for the President to expand on his vision and ours for the country’s clean energy future.”

Governor Patrick participates in the ribbon cutting ceremony at the Biocell Center new North American headquarters in Medford yesterday.
- Massachusetts Recovery – Yesterday, the Governor attended the ribbon cutting ceremony for the Biocell Center, an amniotic stem cell bank and research center that is moving its North American headquarters to Massachusetts. "The Life Sciences Initiative was designed to bring jobs to Massachusetts and support vital research. We are thrilled that Biocell Center is opening its North American headquarters in Medford and welcome them to a diverse group of pioneering companies that are making Massachusetts a global leader in stem cell research." Biocell Center, the world’s first amniotic stem cell bank, does work in fertility and infant care. The company cited Governor Patrick's 10-year, $1 billion Life Sciences Initiative which supports a strong life sciences sector in Massachusetts as a catalyst for its decision to locate their operations in Medford.

- Commitment to Public Service – Last night, Governor Patrick took part in Harvard University’s Public Service Week, speaking to students at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government. The Governor, who is a graduate of both Harvard University and Harvard Law School, discussed his administration’s personal commitment to public service, and the importance of service to the commonwealth. “Now more than ever, we need you and your sense of responsibility for one another to lead us into the future,” said Governor Patrick. “We need you to articulate what the world should look like, and then work with us—all of us together—to make it so.” Following his remarks, the Governor answered questions from students on a range of issues from health care to budget challenges. - Responsible Budget Management – Several news stories this week focused on the state budget, and the Patrick-Murray administration’s ongoing commitment to responsibly manage through a global economic downturn. Governor Patrick’s stewardship during this time crisis has helped put Massachusetts on a road to recovery, and positioned Massachusetts more favorably than other states to come out of this downturn stronger than before. The Governor has made the tough choices necessary to protect core services like education and health care, services that reflect our values and vision for the future. The administration recognizes the importance of supporting these initiatives and the role they play in ensuring the Commonwealth continues to be a national leader. - Yesterday, Administration and Finance Secretary Jay Gonzales highlighted the administration’s intention to work closely with the state’s unions to mitigate layoffs, as well as the appropriate and necessary usage of the state’s rainy day fund. Read more in the Boston Herald here and here.

- Later Monday afternoon, Governor Patrick attended a legislative leadership meeting.
- Tuesday morning, Governor Patrick made an announcement relative to small businesses in Quincy.
- Wednesday morning, Governor Patrick visited the Jackson Street School in Northampton to discuss how federal stimulus is being put to work in Hampshire County.
- Later Wednesday morning, Governor Patrick attended the Culture in the Workplace event at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
- Wednesday afternoon, Governor Patrick held a community meeting with young adults at the University of Massachusetts Amherst in the Student Union Center.
