- President Obama visits Massachusetts – President Obama visited Massachusetts on Friday and applauded the Patrick-Murray administration for its achievements in advancing technologies that will benefit the environment. During his address at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the President referenced the upcoming groundbreaking of the Wind Technology Testing Center in Boston funded by a $25 million investment from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, and added “Governor Patrick’s leadership and vision made this happen.” Governor Patrick signed five pieces of environmental legislation last year and has paved the way for Massachusetts to significantly increase its wind generating capacity and solar generating capacity.

- Commitment to Public Health – This past weekend, President Barak Obama declared the H1N1 outbreak a national emergency, giving the President expanded authority to allow hospitals to speed treatment and protect non-infected patients. At a conference with public health officials on Saturday, Governor Patrick assured the public that, “This is not a reason for alarm.” The Governor explained that the federal declaration was a precautionary measure and that state officials and hospitals in Massachusetts are making all necessary preparations in the event of a significant increase in the number of H1N1 cases. “We are on top of this,” the Governor continued. “We are looking after the people of the Commonwealth with all the resources and all the talent at our disposal.”
