Governor Patrick announces his plan to close a $600 million mid-year budget gap yesterday in Worcester.

 

  • Leadership Based on Values: $600 Million Budget Gap Closed -- Providing leadership based on values, Governor Deval Patrick yesterday appeared before a gathering of business leaders in Worcester to unveil his plan to close a $600 million mid-year budget gap. “We should be just as concerned about our commitment to our values as we are about the value of our commitments,” said Governor Patrick.  “Those values – creating good jobs at good wages, offering a world-class education to our kids, delivering quality, affordable health care to our residents, protecting and supporting the most vulnerable – those are the values to which we as a Commonwealth are committed. So as I meet my statutory responsibility to bring the budget in line, I do so according to my moral responsibility to those values.”

  • Lt. Governor Visits Western MA – Yesterday, Lieutenant Governor Murray visited the western part of the state, including stops in Springfield, Pittsfield, and Northampton.  In Springfield, Lt. Governor Murray attended the inaugural celebration of the new Roger L. Putnam Technical and Vocational High School’s Extension Project.  Following his visit to Springfield, Murray traveled to Pittsfield and provided remarks at the Soldier On groundbreaking ceremony for a new veterans' housing facility that will be the first-of-its-kind, a limited equity cooperative housing for formerly homeless veterans.
