Governor Patrick Nominates Experienced Litigator and Former President of the Massachusetts Bar Association to the Springfield District Court

BOSTON – Wednesday, November 19, 2008 – Governor Patrick announced today the nomination of Mark D. Mason, an experienced litigator, mediator and arbitrator, to the Springfield District Court.

“The depth and breadth of Mark Mason’s experience make him uniquely qualified to sit on the District Court,” Governor Patrick said.  “Beyond his proven legal skills and excellent reputation, Mason has throughout his career consistently given back to his community and the bar through pro bono representation, leadership, and volunteer work.”

Mason, a graduate of Columbia University and Boston University School of Law, has since 1994 been associated with the Springfield law firm of Cooley, Shrair, where he currently is a Partner. He represents individuals, small businesses, and large corporations in a variety of matters including business litigation, domestic relations, personal injury and real estate and also frequently serves as a court-appointed master, mediator and arbitrator.

A devoted violinist, Mason, a resident of Springfield, has performed as a member of the First Violin Section of the Pioneer Valley Symphony since 1992.  He served for many years as an officer of the Massachusetts Bar Association, most recently as its President.

Mason is slated to fill the vacancy on the Springfield District Court created by the retirement of Judge William W. Teahan, Jr.
