Patrick-Murray Administration Announces Continued MCAS Improvement
On Wednesday September 2, 2009, Lieutenant Governor Tim Murray, Education Secretary Paul Reville, and Elementary and Secondary Education Commissioner Mitchell Chester announced that Massachusetts 10th graders made across-the-board gains on last year’s MCAS exam, and 84 percent of students have already met the state’s minimum testing requirements needed to earn a high school diploma on their first try. The announcement marks the earliest that MCAS results have been publicly released since the beginning of the state's testing program in 1998, providing important information to the public and sets the stage for the upcoming release of district and school results. Under the Patrick-Murray Administration the state has continued to show improvement annually on the state’s MCAS exams, and its students have outperformed many of their peers nationally and internationally.
