Chief Legal Counsel
As Chief Legal Counsel, Ben Clements is responsible for advising the Governor on legal and policy issues, judicial selection, legislation, and all legal issues concerning the Governor and the Office of the Governor. Prior to his appointment as Governor Patrick’s Chief Legal Counsel, Clements specialized in trial and appellate litigation and defense of government investigations, as a partner in the litigation firms of Clements & Clements, LLP, which he co-founded in 2003, and Sullivan, Weinstein & McQuay. Clements also served for seven years as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Major Crimes Unit and the Public Corruption and Special Prosecutions Unit of the Boston U.S. Attorney’s Office. Before serving in the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Clements practiced in the litigation department of the Boston firm of Hill & Barlow, and served as a law clerk for Chief Judge Levin H. Campbell of the United States Court of Appeals in Boston. Clements graduated cum laude from Dartmouth College and summa cum laude from the Cornell Law School.
