In service to Massachusetts' residents and municipalities, the Division of Community Services offers programs, funding, and technical assistance to support the advancement towards self-sufficiency of low-income households and the revitalization of our cities and towns.

Community Preservation

The Community Preservation Act allows communities to create a local Community Preservation Fund funded through a surcharge of up to 3% of the real estate tax levy on real property in the municipality for open space, historic preservation and low and moderate housing

Historic Preservation

The Massachusetts Preservation Projects Fund supports the preservation of properties, landscapes and sites (cultural resources) listed or, in certain circumstances, eligible for listing in the State Register of Historic Places.
