Division of Insurance confirms rate filing by GEICO

Commissioner of Insurance Nonnie S. Burnes today confirmed that the Government Employees Insurance Company (GEICO) has made a filing with her office to offer automobile insurance to Massachusetts customers effective May 18, 2009.

“The Division of Insurance will now review the filing to ensure it meets the rigorous consumer protections we have implemented in the transition to managed competition, as well as the requirements of all applicable statutes, regulations and rules. Today’s filing marks the eighth new company to our market since the Patrick Administration implemented managed competition last April. It is further evidence that managed competition is bringing more choice in cost, coverage and companies to Massachusetts consumers. Massachusetts consumers are reaping the benefits of automobile insurance reform,” said Burnes.
