How often are the Examination held?

The examinations are offered twice a year usually in the spring and fall.

How do I renew my Professional Engineers or Land Surveyor license(s)?

Licenses are renewable June 30th of every even-numbered year. Renewals are mailed out approximately 6 weeks prior to the expiration date. It is the responsibility of the licensee to notify the Board if they fail to receive a renewal notice.

How do I obtain verification of my examination/registration to apply to another state/jurisdiction?

Send a verification form or letter of request along with a fee of $15.00 to the Board of Engineers and Land Surveyors, 239 Causeway Street, Suite 500, Boston, MA 02114. You're your check or money orders payable to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.  Please be sure to indicate which exam(s) you are requesting verification of and the year in which it was taken.  Please also provide any former name under which you may have been tested and/ or registered.

I would like to review my recent or previous examination?

Please be advised the Board has adopted the following policy: In order to protect the security of the examination questions no review of the examinations will be allowed.

How many times can I take the examinations?

Candidates will be allowed to repeat the 'Fundamentals' examination as often as they wish, (they will be required to pay the examination fee).

Candidates will be allowed two opportunities to take the 'Principles and Practice' examinations. After two failures, a candidate wishing to take the examination again will be required to submit to the Board documentation that demonstrates to the Board's satisfaction that additional education, knowledge or experience have been gained which addresses prior deficiencies in the application or examination; an updated Application Experience Page"; and any additional documentation of acceptable engineering or surveying experience that will assist the Board in its review of the updated application. Please refer to 250 CMR 3.04 (10)

My license has been expired for over two years, can I still renew it?

No, if your license has been expired for more than two years you are no longer eligible to just renew that license, rather you must now apply for reinstatement. Reinstatement applications may be found here.
