On Sept. 16, the Patrick-Murray Administrations Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation, along with a coalition of nine colleges and nine business and government partners, announced the launch of Project Credit Smarts - a program designed to educate students about credit card use, including its dangers and pitfalls.
The estimated total credit-card debt being carried by college students in the Boston area is over a half-billion dollars. One in five seniors will graduate with over $7,000 in credit-card debt. Project Credit Smarts offers a crash course for students on surviving the tactics and fine-print catches that can come with credit card pitches. Seminars will be held at schools throughout the Commonwealth, and will reach more than 1,000 students.
