The Essex County Sheriff’s Department is seeking individuals interested in joining a multi-talented, multi-cultural and enthusiastic department of correctional professional. Correctional Officers provide care, custody, and control for both sentenced inmates and pre-trial detainees.
- Starting Salary: $38,209.52
- Shift Differential: $3,177.99
- Roll Call: $1,515.25
- Uniform Allow. & Cleaning: $1,000.00
- Phys. Fitness Incentive: $750.00
- Education Incentive: $1,500.00 - $3,000.00
- Performance: $1,250.00
Maximum Starting Compensation $48,902.76
Top Correctional Officer Compensation $62, 476.86

Required Qualifications:
Associates Degree or 60 credits towards a Bachelor’s Degree AND/OR
Two years Military Experience (Must be in good standing with military)
U.S. Citizen
Minimum 21 Years Old
Valid Driver’s License
Applicants are subjected to physical fitness test, written examination, intensive background investigation, interview process, psychological testing, drug screening, medical clearance and Basic Training Academy.
(All new officers are appointed as Reserve Correctional Officers. Full-time positions are filled from the reserve ranks.)

This entry-level position provides the opportunity for practical experience and broad exposure to the functions of the Essex County Sheriff’s Department. Work involves successfully completing a nine (9) week academy sanctioned by the Massachusetts Sheriff's Association and extensive on-the-job training. Emphasis is placed on training the recruit for continued employment with this Department.
