These are uncommon times. The weakness in the economy is having a profound impact on individuals, families, businesses and communities across the Commonwealth and the nation. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act - coupled with the many investments our Administration has made over the two years and continues to make - will prepare us to cycle out of this downturn stronger than before.
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act will provide the Commonwealth with an estimated $8.7 billion over the next two years. This funding will help us bridge a gap to a brighter future by allowing us to make significant investments in education and transportation, safety net services like food stamps and unemployment benefits and new and clean technologies like broadband and solar power.
Now is a moment not just of challenge, but also of opportunity. The American Reinvestment and Recovery Act provides our Commonwealth with funding for infrastructure projects to save and create thousands of jobs in the near-term and to lay the foundation for long-term economic growth. These are the kinds of investments that will keep our schools, our neighborhoods, our neighbors and our spirit intact. And we will ensure that the agencies overseeing these projects do so with the integrity the public deserves.
The pages of Mass.Gov/Recovery will serve as the primary communication and reporting tool for the Commonwealth's implementation of the economic recovery program. In the future, this site will allow you to track our performance in implementing projects and the success of the projects themselves.
