Olympic Soccer Star Angela Hucles Joins Treasurer Tim Cahill for a Saving Makes “Cents” Event in Weymouth

 SOUTH WEYMOUTH, MA – Today, Massachusetts State Treasurer Tim Cahill hosted a Saving Makes “Cents” event at the Maria Weston Chapman School in South Weymouth for approximately 350 students.  Representatives from the South Shore Savings Bank and Olympic Soccer Player Angela Hucles joined Treasurer Cahill for the event.  

Saving Makes "Cents" is a school banking program run by Treasurer Cahill’s Financial Education Department.  Local schools and banks work together to teach basic monetary concepts, including how to open savings accounts, the origin of money and basic budgeting.  Treasurer Cahill's office provides a curriculum that is taught by classroom teachers and bank representatives, and bank representatives give students opportunities to open savings accounts and make regular deposits at school. 

Angela Hucles is a native of Virginia Beach, Virginia. She was selected in the 12th round of the WUSA Inaugural draft by the Boston Breakers on December 10, 2000 and played with the team through September 2003.  Hucles is a member of the National U.S. Women’s Soccer Team, which finished third in the World Cup this fall and finished first as Olympic Gold Medalists in Athens, Greece in 2004 and in Beijing, China in 2008.

Timothy P. Cahill serves as Massachusetts State Treasurer and Receiver General. He was sworn in for his second term on January 17, 2007. As the Commonwealth’s Chief Financial Officer, Cahill brings a business-minded approach to managing the state’s finances and has implemented better business practices in the Treasury’s departments and affiliated agencies.  Prior to his election in 2002, Cahill served as Norfolk County Treasurer from 1997-2002, as a Quincy City Councilor from 1987-2003, and was a successful small business owner and the author of a book about local businessmen. He is a graduate of Boston University and a recipient of the 2007 Eisenhower Fellowship. Treasurer Cahill lives in Quincy with his wife, Tina, and their four daughters.
