TREASURER TIM CAHILL ANNOUNCES SEPTEMBER RECIPIENT OF “VETERAN OF THE MONTH” AWARD

PITTSFIELD, MA - State Treasurer Tim Cahill announced Vietnam War Veteran of the United States Army and retired Executive Director of the Pittsfield Veterans Outreach Centers, Inc. Daniel J. Denault, as this month’s “Veteran of the Month.” Mr. Denault was in Vietnam from April 1968 to April 1970 and was discharged with a Purple Heart after being wounded. Among the various Veterans organizations that Mr. Denault has been an active member, he helped organize one of the first of seven Veterans Outreach Centers where he remained Executive Director for 20 years. Mr. Denault has been named Past Commander for the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 996 and the American Legion Post, and was also named Past All State Commander for Massachusetts VFW Post 9144. He is currently the Veterans Service Officer for the Town of Lanesboro.

“It is a great honor to recognize Daniel Denault as this month’s Veteran of the Month,” said Treasurer Tim Cahill. “We owe these men and women a debt of gratitude, and one way to show it is through the ‘Veterans Bonus’ program. Our goal is to make all eligible service members aware of this program.”

The “Welcome Home” Bonus and other Veterans’ Bonuses are tax-free cash payments available to eligible United States service members. The “Welcome Home” Bonus, administered by Treasurer Cahill’s office, provides a bonus to service members called to active duty since September 11, 2001.

The “Veteran of the Month” award helps to recognize those who have served in the Armed Forces while simultaneously raising awareness for the “Welcome Home” Bonus benefit.  Service members from Massachusetts who 1) served in Iraq or Afghanistan, or 2) served in any other nation in the world for a period of 180 days or more are eligible. To date, more than 17,000 applications have been approved.

For more information about the “Welcome Home” Bonus program, programs for veterans of World War II, Korea and Vietnam, or for an application, please contact Treasurer Cahill’s office at www.mass.gov/treasury or 617-367-9333 x859.  In addition, The Office of Veterans’ Services administers a bonus program for Gulf War veterans.
