Welcome Home Bonus Information


On November 11, 2009 a bill was enacted that, subject to appropriation, allows for this department to fund multiple deployments from September 11, 2001 to the present.

A member of the service who has already received a Welcome Home Bonus, and meets all eligibility guidelines, can apply for subsequent deployments.

  • $500 for a deployment to Iraq/Afghanistan
  • $250 for a deployment outside of Iraq/Afghanistan.

Eligibility Requirements:

  1. Chapter 130 Acts of 2005: Six months domicile in Massachusetts immediately prior to latest enlistment/commission into the Armed Forces.
  2. For active service on or after September 11, 2001.
  3. Discharged/Active Service must be under Honorable conditions.

Payment Information:

  1. Active service in Afghanistan or Iraq: $1000.00 (The area of eligibility encompasses all land area of the countries Iraq and Afganistan, and the contigous water area out to 12 nautical miles, and all air spaces above the land area of Iraq and Afganistan and above the contiguous water area out to 12 nautical miles)
  2. Six continuous months of active service, state side or outside the continental limits of the United States service: $500.00

*Active service shall not include active duty for training in the Army National Guard, Air National Guard, those in the Naval Academy or active duty for training as a reservist in the armed forces of the United States. You also must be activated under Title 10 not Title 32.

How to Apply:

  1. Complete, date, and sign the application.
  2. The Residence Certificate portion of the application must be signed and stamped by the appropriate officail in the city or town where you resided prior to your latest enlistment/commission into the Armed Forces. Residency Certificate must reflect at least 6 continuous months prior to your latest enlistment/commision date into the military, but no more than 1 year.
  3. Submit a complete and clear photocopy of all #4 DD214s for service after 9/11/2001 if discharged.
  4. Sign and date W-9 form.

If still on active Duty:

  1. Have Commanding Officer fill out the appropriate form.
  2. Please submit a photcopy of Military I.D.
  3. Sign and date W-9 form.
  4. If deployed to Iraq/Afghanistan please send copies of orders.
