Research Study: Returning OIF/OEF Veterans

  • Are you a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom or Operation Enduring Freedom over the age of 18?
  • Have you been experiencing difficulties such as intense emotions when reminded of combat, nightmares, difficulty sleeping, feeling wound up, etc?

If you answered yes to the above questions, you may be eligible for a study evaluating a treatment for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

This study is supported by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and will take place at the National Center for PTSD at the Jamaica Plain Campus of the VA Boston Healthcare System.

The study involves ten 1.5-3 hour visits, and you will be compensated $390 for full participation.

Clinical Research Study for OIF/OEF Veterans

Are you an OEF or OIF veteran who may have difficulties in your social life, with your job, or your physical health?

  • Earn $30 dollars for your participation in a research study examining the problems in one’s social life, work, and health related to military service.
  • Participation will take up to 2 hours.
  • You will be asked questions about your current mental and physical health, social life, and ability to work since your return home.
  • The study takes place at either the Jamaica Plain or Brockton campus of the VA Boston Healthcare System.

Attention Female Veterans Who Have Been Deployed in Support of OEF/OIF

  • Earn $75 for your participation in a group discussion about factors that impact OEF/OIF veterans' use of healthcare services.
  • Participation will take up to two hours.
  • The conversation will be informal and refreshments will be served.
  • Free parking is available.
  • Group discussions will take place in various locations across Massachusetts.

Relationship Strengthening Programs for Veterans

The National Center for PTSD, located at the VA Boston Healthcare System, has programs to help veterans strengthen their personal relationships. Participation in the program is confidential and involves: weekly group meetings that last 2 hours each (for 10 or 12 weeks, depending on the group) and 3 or 4 visits for 2-3 hours each to fill out questionnaires. Participants will be paid for their time.

The Strength at Home Programs are for veterans of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. One program is for male veterans, the other for couples.

Clinical Research Study for OIF/OEF Veterans

Have you or someone you know experienced a traumatic event while serving in the military in Iraq, Afghanistan, or on Middle East assignment? Are you or someone you know:

  • Having disturbing memories of the event
  • Avoiding memories of the event
  • Experiencing significant anger or anxiety
  • Having sleep problems or nightmares since the event

The Manchester VA Medical Center Research Service and Massachusetts General Hospital are investigating new treatments for  Post-Taumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

Mileage and study participation fees will be provided.
