Women Veterans’ Homelessness Program

The VA Boston's Women Veterans’ Homelessness Program provides case management and health services to homeless women and their children in Boston and the surrounding areas. The program offers a range of services not only to homeless women, but those who are at-risk for homelessness. The program offers assistance with other agencies, courts, and VA benefits (processing claims, etc.).

TRUST House

Trust (Transitional Residence Utilizing Support and Treatment) House is a therapeutic residential program that offers secure and affordable housing along with a communal atmosphere in a treatment-focused setting in Jamaica Plain. The residence is home for seven women veterans and two house managers. Each resident participates fully in the daily operations of the house (including food shopping, cleaning, gardening, laundry, and cooking).

The treatment program involves individual and group therapy, case management, paid work experiences through Compensated Work Therapy Program, house meetings, and recreational community outings.

The TRUST House specializes in the treatment of women with PTSD as well as depression, substance abuse, anxiety, dissociation, and homelessness.

Soldier On

Soldier On has a house on the Northampton VA campus in Leeds that is especially for women veterans. The program provides resident veterans with treatment and recovery from drug and alcohol addictions along with medical services. Please contact Soldier On for information on admission criteria and the application process.

Massachusetts Veterans Inc.

Massachusetts Veterans Inc., (MVI) in Worcester has a women’s housing program that offers an alcohol and drug-free environment coupled with case management services. For information on admission criteria and to apply, contact MVI.

Women's Dorms at Chelsea Soldiers’ Home

The Chelsea Soldiers’ Home has a private and secure dormitory wing specifically for female veterans who can live in an independent setting and who require minimal assistance with the activities of daily living. For eligibility requirements and to apply, contact the Soldiers’ Home.

Bedford Veterans' Quarters

The Bedford Veterans Quarters offers 60 private, furnished rooms including a group of seven contiguous rooms for female veterans that share one common bathroom. The Bedford Veterans Quarters is housed in Building 5 on the Bedford VA Campus in Massachusetts. 56 of the 60 units receive Section 8 benefits. Applications will be reviewed by the Metropolitan Boston Housing Partnership, including a CORI review. Veterans must have completed their military service with either an honorable or general discharge as shown on their DD 214 and must be clean and sober for at least 120 days.

Women Veterans Transition House

The Women Veterans Transition House in New Bedford is home to ten women veterans who are dealing with homelessness and alcohol and drug abuse recovery. Each resident can live at the Transition House for up to two years. During that time she will partake in individual and group counseling to learn skills such as anger management, life skills, art as therapy, and preventing domestic violence, with the goal of developing the tools needed for successful independent living.

Lt. Pamela D. Donovan Memorial Residence for Women

The Pamela D. Donovan Memorial Residence for Women is the newly-renovated dormitory at the New England Shelter for Homeless Veterans. Renovated in 2007, the 16-bed dormitory has new floors, ceilings, tiling, bathroom facilities, and television room. The residence is named for Lt. Pamela Donovan, a U.S. Army nurse and Massachusetts native, killed at the 25th Evac. Hospital near Qui Nhon, South Vietnam in 1968.
