Hotels, restaurants, taverns and clubs MAY sell alcoholic beverages during the
regular hours on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 26, 2009.
Registered pharmacists MAY NOT sell alcoholic beverages (or alcohol) at any
time during the day except upon the prescription of a registered physician on all
mentioned holidays.
SUNDAY SALES BY SECTION 15 LICENSEES
ANNUALLY ON A STATEWIDE BASIS
Effective April 5, 2004, pursuant to the provisions of Acts 2004, Chapter 65, Sections 21 and 22, any Section 15 (off-premise) licensee may make sales on Sundays, subject to the conditions that: there shall be no sales prior to the hour of 12:00 noon; that establishments which employ more than 7 persons shall compensate all employees a rate of not less than one and one-half of the employee’s regular rate; no employee shall be required to work on a Sunday and refusal to work on a Sunday shall not be grounds for discrimination, dismissal, discharge, deduction of hours or any other penalty. No additional permit or approval is required any longer from the local licensing authority. A municipality may prohibit the sale of alcoholic beverages on Sundays annually by Section 15 (off-premise) licensees by vote of the City Council or Board of Selectmen.
Any Section 15 (off-premise) licensee that conducts business on a Sunday as provided by the law may cease the conduct of business on 1 day of the week notwithstanding the provisions of Section 77 of Chapter 138. M.G.L. c.138, s.33(c), as inserted by Acts 2003, Chapter 141, Section 32. |
