Data Collection and Information Sharing

Pursuant to Chapter 178 of the Acts of 2011, the Legislature has created an interagency Human Trafficking Task Force to address all aspects of human trafficking through policy changes. The task force is charged with addressing Human Trafficking through service development, demand reduction, system change, public awareness, and training. The task force is chaired by Attorney General Martha Coakley and includes state and community agencies.

The Data Collection and Information Sharing subcommittee is responsible for two of the ten tenets described in Chapter 178 of the Acts of 2011:

“(i) coordinate the collection and sharing of human trafficking data among government agencies; provided, however, that such data collection shall respect the privacy of victims of human trafficking; coordinate strategies and make recommendations for law enforcement to share information for the purposes of detecting individuals and groups engaged in human trafficking;

(ii) review and recommend policies and procedures to enable state government to work with non-governmental organizations and other elements of civil society to prevent human trafficking and to protect and provide assistance to victims of trafficking”.
