Statement of Attorney General Martha Coakley Regarding Anti-Bullying Legislation

BOSTON - Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley issued the following statement regarding the anti-bullying legislation passed today by the House and Senate:

"We have seen the tragic consequences that bullying, if left unaddressed, can have on many of our children. This bill will address the root causes of bullying through comprehensive prevention and education efforts in our schools. It also implements a strong reporting requirement to help assure that parents, teachers, principals and law enforcement are properly involved to address this negative behavior quickly and prevent it from being swept under the rug. We have been proud to work with the House and Senate on this legislation, and it will be a strong step forward for the protection of our children when the Governor signs this bill into law."
