Martha Coakley to Be Sworn in for Second Term as Attorney General on Wednesday

BOSTON - Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley will be sworn in for her second term in office on January 19, 2011 at Perkins School for the Blind. Steven Rothstein, President of Perkins School for the Blind, will serve as the Master of Ceremonies and will deliver welcoming remarks. Chief Justice of the Supreme Judicial Court Roderick L. Ireland will administer the Oath of Office to AG Coakley before local dignitaries, family, friends, and supporters. Assistant Attorneys General reappointed for another term will also be sworn in at the ceremony.

The Attorney General's Office and Perkins School for the Blind partnered during AG Coakley's first term on two major initiatives to ensure greater fairness of access and opportunity for disabled people. In September 2008, AG Coakley and the National Federation of the Blind reached an agreement with Apple, Inc. that provided blind consumers, including students at Perkins School for the Blind, with full and equal access to educational and informational content. In July 2010, AG Coakley settled with the three largest national movie theater chains to provide deaf and blind residents greater accessibility to movies through requiring the chains to install descriptive and captioning technologies.
