Statement of Attorney General Martha Coakley on Passage of Storm Response Bill by Senate

Responding to the Senate’s passage of the bill, An Act Relative to Emergency Response of Public Utility Companies, Attorney General Martha Coakley issued the following statement:

“The Senate’s action to advance this storm response bill will greatly assist our continuing efforts to protect ratepayers by holding utilities accountable for safety and reliability at reasonable costs. It will also ensure direct rate relief to those affected customers who have been harmed by inadequate emergency storm response. I applaud the ongoing work of the Senate, as well as the Energy Committee under the leadership of Chairmen Downing and Keenan.”

Last month, AG Coakley sent a letter to the Joint Committee on Telecommunications, Utilities and Energy urging that the bill direct all penalties paid by utilities back to impacted customers through rate credits.
