Statement of Attorney General Martha Coakley on Passage of Energy Bill by Legislature

Responding to the House and Senate passage of the bill, An Act Relative to Competitively Priced Electricity in the Commonwealth, Attorney General Martha Coakley issued the following statement:

“Today’s comprehensive energy bill implements a number of important updates that will allow Massachusetts to maintain the benefits of the Green Communities Act while providing for increased competition, accountability, and transparency for ratepayers. Our office advocated for a number of reforms to benefit ratepayers, including the reduction of sweetheart incentives for utilities and ensuring a competitive bidding process for renewable energy projects going forward. This bill also provides our office with new oversight over private water companies. We want to thank Senate President Murray, Speaker DeLeo, and Chairmen Downing and Keenan for their leadership on this issue.”
