Level 3 Sex Offender Arrested, Arraigned on Child Pornography Charges

Has Two Previous Convictions for Assaulting Children

BOSTON – A man registered as a Level 3 Sex Offender has been arrested and arraigned in Boston Municipal Court for allegedly possessing images of child pornography, Attorney General Martha Coakley’s Office announced today.

Mark W. Hedgecock, age 43, is charged with Possession of Child Pornography. Massachusetts State Police assigned to the AG’s Office arrested Hedgecock on Friday evening in Boston.

Hedgecock was arraigned this morning in Boston Municipal Court where he entered a plea of not guilty. Judge Eleanor Sinnott set bail at $50,000, with the conditions that Hedgecock be monitored via GPS and have no contact with any child under the age of 18. Hedgecock is due back in Boston Municipal Court on October 8 for a pre-trial conference.

At the arraignment today, Assistant Attorney General Thomas Ralph noted Hedgecock’s previous convictions relating to assault of a child. In 2002, Hedgecock was found guilty of indecent assault and battery on a child and in 1998 he was found guilty of two counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14.

In July, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children shared information with the AG’s Office about an e-mail account that was allegedly obtaining child pornography images. State Police assigned to the AG’s Office then began an investigation and linked the account to Hedgecock.

State Police obtained and executed a search warrant authorizing the search of Hedgecock’s online account for depictions of child pornography. Subsequent initial investigation of Hedgecock’s e-mail account revealed alleged images of child pornography.

The investigation is ongoing.

This case is being prosecuted by Assistant Attorney General Thomas Ralph, Chief of AG Coakley’s Cyber Crime Division. It was investigated by Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Attorney General’s Office and investigators from the AG’s Digital Evidence Lab.
